Teto's Birthday Bash Deluxe is a visual novel parody fangame released by Studio Brainrot: April Team on April 1st, 2022. Intended as an april fools day joke, the game was initially to be released in 2020 before being delayed multiple times. Ironically, the game's multiple delays had nothing to do with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

History

The game was originally conceived in Summer 2019 as an April Fools day joke by the Vocaloid ebooks community. The Vocaloid ebooks community was a parody, gimmick, and roleplaying community primarily on Twitter. The idea bounced around several groupchats untill the now defunct @swimwear_vbooks account and @lenswagameme decided to recruit more people to try to make the project real.

Artists, writers, and musicians were recruited regardless of their participation in the ebooks community, and the project expanded in scope; instead of being just a joke in the ebooks community, it aimed to be funny for the vocaloid community at large. The project initally had a few different leaders. Eventually after several organizers left the project, paulie stepped up to lead the project alone going forward in April 2020.

The team's collaborative name was decided to be "April Team" very close to the game's release.

Release

After multiple delays, the game was shadow dropped on April 1st, 2022. A collaborative trailer was also released on paulie's youtube channel to promote the game.

Later, a commerative "bootleg" physical edition of the game was created as a gift to the team members who participated on the project. It included an artbook featuring all of the original art created for the project, some concept art, and an afterward.

  • The game's plot revolving around Teto is a refernce to the character's birthday being April 1st.
  • The game was almost entirely complete in March 2020, with the only major omission being the final scene and a few assets that would take longer.
  • The game was made in the Ren'py engine.
  • The game was heavily inspired by the parody visual novel Len Burns Down a School .
